Resume and Job Search Tips for the Bay Area
Many local residents who are considering Bay Area resume services such as mine tell me that they "never needed a professional resume."
I understand. This job market is tougher than we've seen for years. Your usual techniques to write your resume and look for a job may not be as successful now.
When it comes to your resume and cover letter, certain rules have changed in recent years. You don't begin your resume with a "Job Objective" and you don't finish it by saying, "References Available Upon Request". Your resume cannot simply be a list of your job duties. It can't cause the reader to squint.
You have to demonstrate your professionalism and your unusual capabilities right away, using your resume and your cover letter. They are your handshake.
But there are other special job search tips. If you think your resume merely lists your jobs and your duties then it is probably not sufficient.
Your resume is a marketing device. You control it and you need to shape it so it most effectively gets the reader to buy your product: you. To do this, you need to think carefully about your accomplishments. With each of my clients, I focus mainly on this crucial aspect of the resume. I want to know what you did each day on the job. Then, we need to identify how these activities were important for your employer.
I work with clients all over the globe. However, I take particular pleasure in working with clients in our community. In my career as a newspaper reporter I met thousands of business executive, managers, and employees here in the Bay Area. I have written books that highlight the amazing achievements of some of these people.
I understand the demands of this market. I can help you sharpen your job search skills as well as your resume. If you order a resume from Shimmering Resumes, I'll set up an appointment with you to meet on the phone or in my San Mateo office to discuss your career history and your goals.
